A NEW DOCUMENTRY FILM BY VIOLETTA ROTTER-KOZERA
The 1st Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors was held in Katowice in December 1979 to mark the Competition patron?s birth centenary. Its high artistic level and standards of organisation made it possible for the Fitelberg Competition to join the exclusive WFIMC (World Federation of International Music Competitions) in Geneva soon afterwards. This year young composers from all continents will compete at the Silesian Philharmonic (the seat of the Competition organiser) again between 17th and 26th November, already for the tenth time in history. This jubilee edition is a time to look back and sum up the achievements. One attempt at this kind of summary presentation is the documentary film Step Up to the Podium and Win, directed and scripted by Violetta Rotter-Kozera, produced by the Katowice branch of Polish Television TVP in cooperation with the Silesian Philharmonic. The film sums up the nine hitherto editions of the Fitelberg Competition, taking advantage of the rich resources held in the Television archives and quoting statements by participants and prize-winners, orchestra musicians, jurors and observers, members of the audience, as well as organisers ? those responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the Competition machine, who take care to make everyone feel at home amid the thrills and spills of the artistic contest.
We warmly encourage you to watch Violetta Rotter-Kozera?s film Step Up to the Podium and Win, which will premiere on TVP Katowice on Sunday 12th November at 8.10 pm. We are sure that lovers and enthusiasts of the Fitelberg competition will not miss this premiere, which we also heartily recommend to the wide audience.
